Amorphous Raptr: like The Blob poured into a dinosaur jelly mould

For reasons that I've entirely forgotten, today I signed up to Raptr. First impressions? Useful, but it's one of those things that I can see myself getting bored of after a few days, then coming back to it a year later to discovered it's tracked all my bloody playtime, which will amaze and depress me in equal measure.

That's a pretty sanitised depiction of a Velociraptr if you ask me.
Still, it's nice that it tracks not just PC gameplay, but also 360, Xbox Live Arcade and even some flash gaming. It was during this discovery that I remembered a game that I was particularly fond of: Amorphous+. I looked at the entry on the site, and was shocked that no one had reviewed it yet...
Amorphous+ Review (yes you knew it was coming)
So incredibly addictive, I find myself coming back again and again. There are two game modes, and the overall gameplay is very simple: either kill the allotted amount of enemies, or kill the enemies for as long as you can.

Of course, that does mean that these screenshots are going to look pretty similar...
There's an achievement system, with awards ranging from those given for playtime, to combo swings and killing a certain number of each enemy type. If that's not enough for you, then don't worry! They even come with their own snarky comments! Even better, for every so many awards you attain, you're given a key to unlock a new reward: items which can be used to prolong your survival time, such as a grenade, or a suit of armour. Look! A yellow one! The enemies are varied, with each requiring a different strategy. Side-step Biters then hit them from the back, walk round the Oozle's and hit them three times as quickly as you can, and with Horrors...just leg it! It's not all good however: although the music is varied in genre, it brings back memories of the last time I rode the elevator at the local shopping centre, while wasting an unlock key on a "dud" reward can be very aggravating, although this is easily prevented with a quick look at a game guide. I do so love a game of Asteroids.

***** 5/5
Amorphous+ was created Innocuous Games, and was released in 2008. You can play the game here.
